Wednesday’s Word of the Day | Canvas More than Art

This morning (I am writing this post well before you’re reading it), I watched Taylor Swift get her ass kissed on Kelly & Michael.

I love the show, but I really can’t get on board with Tay-Tay. That is, until I listened to her explain that her cat, Olivia, was named after Olivia Benson from Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit. As much as I would hate to admit it, the girl and I have the same love (please understand that I do not mean cats). I guarantee the “days she spends not getting out of bed” are filled with the inevitable marathon that’s on some channel or another, and for that, I can’t hate her. In fact, I want to talk to her about it. Ugh.

Coming full circle with her covert love for crime TV, she threw out the word, “canvas,” when assuring us she wasn’t a cat lady. “I canvased my friends about whether two cats made me a cat lady,” she said. When I hear (or use) the word “canvas” and I am not referring to the latest 50% off sale at Hobby Lobby, I am referencing (or subtly showing off how much TV I watch) the marathon crime show industry. Too often have I heard Captain Cragen ask Munch and Finn to “canvas the neighborhood,” to not recognize a fellow watcher when I see (hear) them, and now that I know Miss Diet Coke and red lipstick is in, I know why she let it into her own vocabulary. So for now, I’m giving her a couple of points in my book.

CANVAS: To cover, furnish or line with a canvas (Or, Read: Talk to everyone you know about a particular topic)

So, cheers to the undeniable brainwashing that marathon TV has done to the world – even celebrities – and to the ever-entertaining Olivia Benson.

  1. it is impossible to deny Taylor Swift; you can only hope to contain her.
