In a show of keystrokes… who watched? I dabbled in the live version with a semi-interested husband and a very hungry and latched baby, but recorded it so I could get serious about swooning over some red carpet raves. Sadly, there were but a few. And I don’t say that simply.
Best Dressed : Rosamund Pike and Emma Stone
Wearing Ellie Saab (Emma) and Givenchy (Rosamund), these ladies brought the elegance to an otherwise barren red carpet. Up-do’s, vibrant hues and unseen silhouettes made them the only ones to rock it out. But, it’s not to say they were the best of the worst. They earn their best-dressed spot on my list wholeheartedly.
Honorable Mention : Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga
The gowns were beautiful. After all, J-Lo was wearing Ellie Saab (my all time favorite). Gaga was wearing someone I had never heard of, and who had never designed something for the red carpet, but brought the glam anyways. I was seriously afraid she’d ruin the carpet with some food-derived pretend dress, but Gaga must, too, be goo-goo for the most glamorous red carpet event of the year. She still had her edge, the dress was still something no one else could pull off (ever), but it was done well, done classily (for her) and done so that makes me respect it. J-Lo seemed awkward in the Saab princess gown, but she’s so freaking beautiful that you can hardly say too much. My biggest complaint is her lackluster ponytail. If it had been a bun, or swept all the way up, she’d get bumped up.
Most Disappointing: Where do I begin?
With so many long locks (not black-tie appropriate and my ultimate black-tie affair pet peeve) and form-fitted gowns, ugly patterns and out-of-place jewelry, I had to continually fast-forward to avoid the nausea that came with this year’s carpet majority. A usual best-dressed for me, Naomi Watts was wearing something from an Arc-Digest issue release party, Reese Witherspoon had only the top part of her scalp straightened, NIcole Kidman was wearing her junior year of high school’s homecoming dress, Dakota Johnson was wearing my senior year prom dress and Scarlett Johansson was wearing a scarf… I think. The list goes on, but you can judge for yourself. Here’s to hoping for a better showing with the off-season to think about what you’ve done, ladies.
